Can someone tell me What is MIDI ?
What does it allow me to do?
Im composer of classical music, but recently I got into some pop music.
So here goes another question - I have Yamaha Clavinova. I would like to record my playing on computer, and using some softwares, make arangments of those pop songs. Do I need some bank of sounds? I would like to make recording of song (piano, voice) and then, while it is played, add one by one another instruments like guitar, drums, etc etc...
What all devices do I need in order to do that?
MIDI is a digital interface that allows one type of electronic instrument to control another.
So you play the keyboard of your piano and it controls a synth it is connected to by MIDI. Also a sequencer can control multiple instruments at the same time.
To record playing you just need to connect an audio output from your Clavinova into the input (line-in/microphone) port on your PC.
I'd recommend downloading Audacity which is a free recording app that allows you to record multiple tracks and mix then,
